LaGrave is a very large church. Looking at our website’s leadership page may reveal that you know only a few of those who are considered the staff of our church. It is likely that you know even fewer of the many committees that help to make LaGrave a successful church. LiveSafe is one of those committees.
Whatever the standard for success in church ministry, an overarching standard would be to model our ministry after our Savior, Jesus Christ. Because Christ came to heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18), successful ministry for LiveSafe is quietly working to create a place where all people can feel Jesus’ love, which heals the brokenhearted. To this end, LaGrave has commissioned and charged the LiveSafe Committee with the following mission statement:

Motivated by Christ’s love, LifeSafe’s mission is:
- To create a safe place where abuse victims and concerned others can break their silence;
- To respond with confidential, honest, non-judgmental listening;
- To provide those affected by abuse with additional resources and connect them with our community partners available to help;
- To raise awareness and empower our congregation with knowledge.
Prompted by this mission the LiveSafe committee partnered with SafeHaven to become a Certified Church Against Domestic Violence in 2019.. SafeHaven is a faith-based nonprofit organization which works tirelessly to eradicate domestic abuse in Kent County. Part of becoming a certified church was to engage in creating church policies which would assure
protection for the vulnerable in our church and assure loving response when allegations of abuse were lodged. This work has been long and deliberate. Most recently LaGrave instituted a Child Protection Policy, which was enacted on June 1, 2025.

To continue being a certified church we engage with SafeHaven to assist our congregation in achieving greater awareness of the ongoing problem of abuse. On August 6, 9-11am, Safe Haven is providing a Church Connect: Breakfast & Coffee opportunity to learn more about our church certification. Through this opportunity you will: learn the biblical mandate for abuse work, be provided resources on how individuals can pray, and learn how to refer when someone is in an abusive relationship. If you would like to attend with us please sign up here or email livesafe@lagrave.org to express your interest. We hope that you will join us.
