The presentation will share selections from over 250 letters Dr. Boelkins wrote to his wife Jean while serving as a field surgeon in WWII from D-Day until the end of the war. The letters chronicle his long hours of surgery in field and evacuation hospitals amidst the tragedies of war, revealing the challenges of living in foxholes, operating on devastating wounds, and enduring fear, homesickness, and illness. The letters reveal the critical importance of mail from home in sustaining his morale and unwavering faith in God. Dr. and Mrs. Boelkins were lifetime members of LaGrave. There is no cost to attend.
