A Place for Every Person
We believe everyone is a valued part of our worshiping community. To support those with a variety of needs, we offer Active Sensory and Calming Sensory Rooms. These spaces provide both engagement and rest, helping each child experience a sense of welcome and belonging and have a live feed of the service so that you can still be a part of worship. Our hope is that people will use this room during all or some of the worship service while still feeling connected to the wider community.
Active Sensory Room
If you or someone you know is sensory seeking or needs to move their body to regulate, LaGrave has an active sensory room available. Our active sensory room is available during worship services and weekly programming. This room allows people to move, wiggle, and engage their senses in a safe environment. It is equipped with fidget toys, a platform board swing, peanut ball, jumping stones, foam climbing blocks, crash pad, and spinning chair.
Calming Sensory Space
If you or someone you know struggles with hypersensitivity or sensory overload, LaGrave has calming items available in one of its soft seating rooms. These items are available during worship services and weekly programming. The items in that space include weighted blankets, weighted stuffed animals, noise cancelling headphones, fidget toys, a small bubble lamp, and coloring supplies.

How do I access these spaces?
Currently, both rooms are unlocked during the worship services and weekly programming. A staff member can direct you to these rooms if you need them.
Are these spaces staffed?
No, these spaces are not staffed. Therefore, if someone needs supervision, like a child or adult with memory challenges, they will need to bring someone with them to supervise them in these spaces.
How many people can fit in these spaces?
The active sensory room can hold about 6-8 people and the calming space can hold about 10-12 people, though there are only about 2-3 weighted items and noise cancelling sets available.
Would you be willing to add new items to these spaces if our family would have a need for them?
Yes, we are willing to consider adding items to these spaces based on personal needs. If you would like to see a new item in these spaces, contact Rachel Thorne, our Minister of Youth at rthorne@lagrave.org.
Is there a nursery?
Yes, we have an Infant Nursery for 0-1 year olds and a 2s and 3s class for older kids. Our computer check in/check out process ensures that all children are released only to the adult who checked them in.
